Acupressure Mats: A Short Usage Guide

Acupressure mats are advertised everywhere, though not many people are aware of the benefits of acupuncture, not to mention how to use such mats. If you’re striving for new information too, read this article and learn more about acupuncture!

What are the acupuncture benefits?

Acupuncture is a type of holistic healing that originated in China, which presupposes pressing needles or spikes into certain points on the skin to treat different conditions. It works by stimulating nerve areas, to influence organs, tissues, and body functions.

Through acupuncture, it’s possible to treat chronic pains in the knees, neck, head, and back, as well as migraines and insomnia. It also treats osteoarthritis, and – surprisingly – relieves anxiety and depression.

What is an acupressure mat and what’s it for?

The best way to get into acupuncture at home is with an acupressure mat. Such mats are made from cotton or similar materials, and it has plastic acupuncture points mounted on it. These points (or spikes) stimulate certain areas of the body, relieving stress and easing pains.

How to use an acupressure mat?

You can use this mat on different areas of your body depending on where you are experiencing pain: back, neck, feet.

Position it. First, choose a place to put it on. We recommend positioning it on the sofa or bed if you use it for the first time; after a while, you can freely put it on the floor.

Wear comfortable clothes. Choose such clothes that cover the whole area that you want to be touched by the mat. Cotton is the best material for it since it doesn’t cause any discomfort in contact with plastic spikes. When you’re enough acclimatized to the mat, you can use it on bearskin for better results.

Lower on it slowly. Don’t jump straight ahead on it; it’s not only rather painful, but you can also hurt yourself.

Use regularly. There’s no good in using an acupressure mat once in three months when you remember you bought it. Consistency is the key.

If you don’t yet have an acupressure mat, we recommend this set: it comes together with a pillow to better support the neck, its spikes are firm and long-lasting, and the base is pleasantly tactile.
